How to Use the Grade Calculator

This grade calculator helps you determine your current grade based on all your assignments, tests, quizzes, and other graded work. Follow these steps to calculate your grade:

  1. Enter the name of each assignment (e.g., "Midterm", "Essay", "Quiz 1")
  2. Input the grade you received as a percentage (e.g., 85 for 85%)
  3. Set the weight of each assignment as a percentage of your total grade (e.g., 20 for 20%)
  4. Click "Add Assignment" to include additional items
  5. Click "Calculate Grade" to see your current weighted average

Understanding Grade Calculation

Your final grade is calculated using a weighted average formula:

Final Grade = (Grade1 × Weight1 + Grade2 × Weight2 + ... + GradeN × WeightN) ÷ (Weight1 + Weight2 + ... + WeightN)

For example, if you have three assignments:

  • Homework (80%) with weight 15%
  • Midterm (75%) with weight 25%
  • Project (90%) with weight 30%

Your calculation would be:

Final Grade = (80 × 0.15 + 75 × 0.25 + 90 × 0.30) ÷ (0.15 + 0.25 + 0.30) = 82.86%

Common Grading Scales

Here's a common grading scale used in many high schools and colleges:

90-100%A4.0
80-89%B3.0
70-79%C2.0
60-69%D1.0
0-59%F0.0

Note that grading scales can vary between institutions. Some schools use plus/minus modifiers (e.g., A+, A-, B+, etc.) or different percentage cutoffs.
